General

  • Mission: The mission of the Ethics Committee is to provide leadership and to service the BEAC membership through oversight of implementation of the BEAC Code of Ethics, decision-making on specific ethics complaints, and guidance on application of the Code of Ethics in situations of general interest to BEAC members.
  • Structure:
    • Membership of the committee will consist of a minimum of five members.
    • The Committee is comprised of Certified Professional Environmental, Health and Safety Auditors (CPEAs). Non-CPEAs can be appointed to the committee with approval of the BEAC Chair.
    • When needed, legal counsel will be sought through BEAC
  •
  • Responsibilities:
    • Maintain the BEAC "Code of Ethics" (code) and "Standards of Conduct" (standards) in an up-to-date manner. Make recommendations to the Board to revise the code or standards as warranted. The current code and standards are maintained on the BEAC Website.
    • Investigate and take action on all complaints received against members, CPEAs, and CPEA candidates, under the BEAC's Code of Ethics and approved Disciplinary Procedures for Members.
    • Maintain contact with the ethics committees of other professional organizations.
    • Develop and recommend to the BEAC Board changes concerning the disciplinary policies and procedures.
    • Serve as a resource to the BEAC Board, committees, administrative staff, and CPEAs to provide advice and counsel on ethical matters.

The Ethics Committee has established a Professional Ethics Network (PEN) with other organizations relevant to sustainability service providers.  A Directory of participating organizations is available.
